City of Greater Bendigo excited to host 2011 Australian Goldfields Open at Bendigo Stadium
The month of July will witness several snooker events and many professional cueists will be busy showing off their skills at one snooker table or another. It has been a great achievement of World
Snooker to take the game to a couple of new destinations, especially Australia, where the City of Greater Bendigo is not only ready, but excited to host 2011 Australian Goldfields Open.
Australian Goldfields Open 2011 is the very first major ranking event in Australia and players from around the world are thrilled to be participating in it. This was one of the most important tasks
of Barry Hearn, to expand the geography of snooker across the world. Since he took charge of World Snooker, he has been focusing majorly on the popularity of the game.
All professional players including Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Judd Trump, Stephen Hendry, Ding Junhui, Neil Robertson, Jimmy White, Mark Selby and many others liked the decision
and welcomed it whole heartedly. They were happy to see the game stretching its borders to other territories.
Meanwhile, City of Greater Bendigo is really delighted to host 2011 Australian Goldfields Open at the Bendigo Stadium in Victoria. There are tournament flags waving at major spots in the city like
Bendigo Railway Station, Lake Weeroona and McIvor Highway Strathdale.
Manager major events in City of Greater Bendigo, John Rossi said while speaking to the reporters, “The City of Greater Bendigo is excited to host this international tournament in Bendigo for the next
three years because it will provide an outstanding opportunity to see the world’s best snooker champions play in regional Victoria.”
Rossi added, “It will also showcase our beautiful city through a global broadcast set to reach over 66 countries in Europe and Asia. The Bendigo stadium will be transformed into a made for TV event
featuring the world’s best snooker players and we are looking forward to this not to be missed major event taking place in our city.”
The qualifiers of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open have ended at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on June 30 while the event starts from July 18. Former World Snooker Champion, Neil Robertson
of Australia, will open the tournament with his first round match against Nigel Bond.
