Cityscape Tattoo - Thoughts?

I'm a 20 year old female who's regular sized (medium frame) and paler skin.

I was contemplating getting the below link tattooed on my side... with some revisions to it.. more detail probably.

What do you guys think? I am confident with the idea it's just interesting to see if anyone has any ideas from it that could change my mind.

It would be my first tattoo in greyscale with some yellow tones to it to lighten it up.

  1. I think it'd be great, but you might have to compress a bit if you wanted to get the most "important" buildings in. My best example is something like the New York Mets logo, which takes the best elements of the NYC skyline.

There's no need to assign meaning or symbolism to a tattoo - I think that's kind of a modern obsession anyway. I'd get the skyline of Corona Park (Flushing, NY) if I felt I could fit it somewhere properly, but given my tattoo coverage at this point, I don't think I could give it the space it deserves.

    Go for it.

  2. Where are you planning on getting it? In my opinion, you'd have to make it a lot smaller (width wise) and cut out a lot of the detailing. It would be impossible to get all of those little windows in there without it looking really jumbled and smushed together. You'd have to space the windows on the buildings a lot more.

  3. Motivation for getting a particular design does not necessarily need to be comprehensible... just desirable. Personally, I think that your city-scape will look awesome provided the detail is handled with care. Yellow could brighten the overall piece. Depending on your skin  tone / color ... what might be a great consideration would be .... white. Contrast, contrast, contrast .. it can make a tattoo come alive. The lack thereof can leave what should be a rockin' piece of ink somewhat lifeless. Consider using more white to open the piece up and the yellow to add depth ... as in the city lights , building lights.

Take care not too shoot for so much detail that the piece loses clarity..especially over time.

I hope you post a pic somewhere when it is done!

    Good luck.

  4. WOW.

    That's pretty awesome...

I've never seen anything creative like that.

    I say go for it!

I'd like to know what it means to you though, if you don't mind me asking...

As for your pale skin, I don't think it would be too outstanding...

I actually think this would go great with pale.

    Well, good luck!!

    i hope you enjoy it!

  5. That's awesome.  That particular image looks like it will be hard to tattoo.  I think more detail would be hard.  I would go to your tattoo artist and have him draw you up a cityscape from scratch and put in any details and building you like then it will be 100% yours.
