Question:

Civic Engine Dies While Driving?

There have been several other questions about this same issue, but I think my issue is just a bit different.

99 Civic EX will randomly die while driving. The engine does not sputter or stall, it just dies with no warning (almost like I turned the ignition off). The tachometer shuts off, and I lose my blinkers as well. My stereo and fans stay running. When I try to start the car, it starts normally, but only stays running for like 2 seconds, then immediately shuts off again. This process continues for 3 or 4 times, and then it will start, and stay running as if nothing ever happened; no sputtering or sluggish starting, etc.

The check engine light did come on about a month ago, and the code indicated a problem with the catalytic converter. I have cleared the CE light, and it has not turned on since.

Is it possible that the catalytic converter could create this problem? If not, I am going to look into the ignition replaced as per the recall a few years ago.
