I'm stuck between getting a 93 dx hatch (D15b7)for $2300 or a 99 s10 (2.2 I-4) xtreme stepside p/u for $4000.

-Hatch: PROS: Great gas milage on stock motor. Honda reliability, cheaper insurance than p/u, easy to modify. CONS: 15year old car with 132,300miles.

-s10: Sweet stepside design, able to carry around whatever I want, chill out with girls in the back while looking at stars. CONS: Domestic reliability, weak engine, not good that great of gas milage.

basically from you guys I would like to know what your favorite things are that you can do with your Hatch or p/u that you wouldnt be able to do on the other platform. Thanks all.

  1. I've owned an '04 Civic Si and it did everything. helped me move, carried people had fun tossing it around corners and trips down the east coast. P'ups are cool. They are awesome little 2 or 3 seaters. whether you slam it or raise it, anything can be done to it. keep the 4 cylinder or drop a V8 in it. It's rear wheel drive so imagine the nice smokey burnouts you make and youre still able to see what's in front of you.

  2. The DX hatch is a tiny little bugger. But my mate used to drive a '94 DX hatch before it was stolen (a blessing, in my opinion). It was incredibly cheap to insure, easy to maintain, and an overall reliable car. The previous owner was the kind of guy who bought a car and didn't do a d**n thing to it after the day it left the lot. Oil changes every 30,000 miles, rare service checks, and just general neglect of everything. He gave the car to my mate for $600 with no less than 167,000 miles. When it was stolen, it had over 200k. It easily could have lasted another ten years.

Oh, it also got 40 mpg (with no a/c) and was very easy to modify/add on/fix.

I can't comment much on the pickup but I haven't heard great things about Chevy trucks other than the Silverado. I just generally avoid domestics because there are much better, safer, and more efficient cars available.

I say go for the Honda but offer $1800 to $2000. It's not worth more than $2100 in a private party sale even if it has power steering and a few other options.
