how does illegal immigration harm the US economy.we in my class are doing a debate on how illegal immigration helps or hurts the economy.my teacher told me to research the facts on how illegal immigration hurts the us economy.so i need only facts on how ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION HURTS THE ECONOMY

Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes.  If you have a large segment of the working population not paying taxes then that hurts the economy.   If you have a large segment of the population who doesn't spend much money here, but sends a lot of it back to their home country, that damages the economy.  If employers would rather hire illegal immigrants so that other people either have to take a job for less of a living wage or be unemployed, that damages the economy.  That's all just off the top of my head, I'm sure there will be more.

I don't know about the economy as a whole, but you can argue how illegals are taking the jobs of Americans.  It's not just your entry level "McJobs" anymore either.  Illegals dominate the construction industry now, throwing many American construction workers out of work and causing construction companies that want to hire American workers to see their business undercut by competition.  Such competition can cut into their business by keeping prices low because they pay their illegal workers low wages.

They drive down wages for Americans because they will take work at a lower wage.  Many of them can do this because they will live 2, 3, 4 families to a household, they do not have driver's licenses, insurance, etc.  Those who do have obtained them fraudulently.  Fruadulently obtained driver's licenses are not valid.  Those who do work under stolen or fraudulent SS#'s are harming the person who is the rightful owner of that idendentification.  That number was not assigned to them and they have no right to it, equating to identity theft.  AND they take more than they put into the system!

1)  Illegals have shuts down or even bankrupt hospitals.  

2)  Have force wadges to be cut in half (example Carpentery)

Not to also mention that all of the idenity that has been stolen or abused to obtain work.

I see no way possible that a person that is hidding under the  law that is helping this economy.

3) When you Western Union Money to Mexico did you know that its cheaper to do then to Western Union money to someone in the states.

So my point is you have all these illegals working under the table and also sending money back to their home land.  How is that helping this country.

It's complicated, but I will try to give you some insight.

The Budget of the U.S. has a designated amount of money intended to help people on welfare, education, health-care assistance, Social Security, other social programs, financial aide. That money is to help "legal citizens", who qualify for such aide. Statistics, census data, help us "estimate" how many people will need "X" amount of dollars. When "Illegals"/Un-documented people come here and start using the resources(money) intended to "help" our own people, that budgeted money is, in effect, stolen, because the "Illegals" have no "rights" to those resources/funds. Then, when OUR people rightly use those services, intended for THEM, the budget is, in effect,"over-drawn"(like writing a check, without the money in the bank to "cover it").

I'm sure there are more problems, and possibly, a "snow-ball effect" where one problem causes another, over & over. But this is all I've got for you. Happy learning.

The poster BOOKSHOP pretty much covered it all. Illegal immigrants do hurt the U.S. economy by many of those ways. They have anchor babies that go to our schools without any English and then the teachers and other students are forced to focus on them, which hurts the other student's educations. What little they pay in taxes does not cover their expenses that American citizens have to make up for. Their kids get free breakfast/lunches, but they always have money to buy ice cream or chips, its amazing. Good luck with your assignment. I think if you do enough research, you will see for yourself what a negative effect illegals have on the U.S.

most of it has been covered. I will add this. you may or not know what low income/secion 8 housing is. There used to be a standard waiting time of about 6-12 months for a low income dwelling. Now in CA that list is as long as 20 years. in other places it's as long as 10-15. A homeless person should get first preference for housing. an ILLEGAL who has nvever paid in any taxes will get a low income house BEFORE a homeless American vet who served our country for 30 years and paid in taxes for 50. The US has the highest population of homeless people ever in its history and there are enough low income housing for most of those homeless IF the illegals didn't have them..

US citizens who want to college cannot get enough financial aid to attend without having to take out thousands of dollars in loans (for me it would be $40,000 a year in loans) while an illegal gets FULL financial aid and free tuition. Then an illegal that does finish his education will get a job never paying in any taxes to reimburse the government for his $300,000 financial aid he recieved.

Every anchor baby cost a minimum of $10,000 per normal delivery..that is IF nothing goes wrong.no c section. no early delivery. no neonatal ICU. add that to the number of anchor babies yearly and figure that to the cost that tax payers cover yearly that illegals do not pay. It takes $400,000 a year to raise a child to the age of 18 normal expenses (not any major accidents, etc)..multiply that times the number of anchor babies born in the US and figure the cost to American taxpayers in medical cost and school and food.
