  1. This is how it works in the U.S.  And architect designs the building but the Civil Engineer designs the structure like the foundation, framing and roof members.   A geotechnical engineer will make sure that you build your foundation so it won't sink into the ground or slid of the hill and a structural engineer will design the framing and roof so it can withstand the static loads (the weight of the building) and the dynamic loads like wind and rain.

It is usually good enough to hire an architect and he will consult with a civil engineer to design the structural members if they are a good and reputable architect.

  2. just one. just the architect will be okay. they have almost same subjects in college.

  3. Make over is the work of arch, they were took a minor subjects only than civil eng, like bldg. design  civil - 5 units while arch just 3-units as will as calculus

  4. For Buildings, according to the National Building Code you need both.  You need an Architect for planning and architectural details, Civil Engineer for 1-2 store buildings/ Structural Engineer for above 2 storey to make structural anlysis and design.  Sanitary Engineer for the Piping, and Electrical Engineer for Electrical Systems.  Mechanical Engineer for Mechanical Systems such as HVAC or Machineries.

For 3 storey and above you need soil analysis done by Geodetic Engineer.  In addition Republic Act 545, prohibits others, other than Architect in signing for Architectural Designs.

  5. Those are two different sciences.  I don't think I would want a civil engineer to design my house and I wouldn't want an architect building roads and bridges.  That should be a no-brainer.

  6. either will do right now.

but there is an ongoing conflict between civil engineers and architects.

if architects get their way,  house and building construction would be in their realm.  only civil works(roads, bridges, canals, dams,...) will remain with civil engineers.
