  1. and "eye pokes" and "groin hits" and such can be used by anyone- so can biting, urinating on your opponent and knives.

the problem with krav maga comes down to the same problem with many arts- they don't train realistically.

if you want to train in krav, fine, I'm sure you have trained hard against fully resisting opponents to make sure your techiques work- if you havent' well then you really don't know if they will do you?

however, this brings us to the "illegal" under many rulesets part. I would ask how many times you have trained said illegal moves full contact against a fully resisting opponent.  none?

so then how are you recieving any more training than the average untrained guy in the use of these techniques if you haven't trained to apply them in a full contact full resistance scenario.

maybe you will find yourself in a scenario to use that, or to try to damage someone's knee or other joint- but if an untrained technique is what you are basing your fighting strategy on then I hope they put in a civil defence program based on that because I and people who train full contact and RECOGNIZE THE LIMITS OF UNTRAINED TECHNIQUES are going to run the place.

I'm not attacking the validity of the training of any style as a whole- what I am attacking is the notion that you can effectively use a techique without ever using it against a fully resisting opponent as the basis for your alleged "superiority".

if you could learn to fight like that then every kid playing power rangers would be a world-class fighter.

as for the civil defence program I would guess what the exact guidelines are and application would determine my answer.

give me a more detaliled plan that would be worth spending my time learning.

as for first aid- I do think that first aid programs should be mandatory in high school.

  2. What does first aid have to do with self defense? I'm not going to help the guy who attacked me. Strike first, strike hard, NO mercy! No, I don't think that a civil defense program should be started.

  3. There are many private organizations that already do this in America, you just have to seek them out. But if you are refering to a State sponsored class or even a type of community service charge that people will be required to serve, then no. I think that our government does too much already, and any service imposed on the people is just another way of stripping us of our freedom (especially if it means we are going to trained to be loyal servents of the government).

  4. there is nothing civil about self defense. and most self defense schools are open to anyone who wishes to train...its their own fault if they don't.

i agree with bluto to an extent. you must train live...whatever "art" you practice. but that is no reason to ignore things that can potentially save your life, just because you cant train them 100% full contact. i have plenty more training than your average joe in biting, and eye gouging for example because i train to reckognize openings for them, you dont have to do them full contact to benefit from them. now...im definately not saying your self defense aresnal should RELY on them either.

  5. No. I do however think every Black Belt should know CPR and know basic first aid. I would like to see more schools make it mandatory for Black Belt testing.

The basics in Homeland Security should be taught as well.

  6. Civil defense program?  No, because some people might not have interest in learning self-defense or martial arts.  First aid?  Yes, I think that would be recommended.  I think people should be taught how to take care of their health better than self defense.  Some people might not have the requirements to learn martial arts and if self defense is being taught in the wrong minds then it can cause major violence.  I would recommend Krav Maga for self-defense.

  7. In Singapore its already established due to the low population (2 million). All males born there have to serve when they are 18.

I think its helpful. Krav Maga is by far the best self defense art known. They allow groin hits, eye rakes and anything possible to stun the opponent and run unharmed and quickly. Whereas in other martial arts they prohibit illegal hits. When your fighting for your life there are no rules.
