Civil engineering or Computer Science?

I find Computer Science boring, but who knows it might be a subject that gets interesting when you can do it. I have no computer science background other than maths but i'm not too familiar with logic.

Civil engineering has two things that appeal to me, mechanics and design. I have a tiny physics background but a decent maths(mechanics) background. I also prefer that I wont be locked inside all the time.

From what I know Computer Science is a very stable choice financially, my problem with it is the boredom. Civil Engineering is what I find interesting, but I don't wanna s***w myself up financially by choosing a career which doesn't have priority in the economy.

  1. Take some computing classes because every profession any more requires minimal proficiency. But go with what you love. Many civil engineers need to use CAD/CAM software packages. Most computer science work is indoors but fields like networking are much more physically active and in demand than programming. Learning GPS skills would be a joint fit.

  2. In engineering do what you love. There is so much demand for all types of engineers. If you love Civil Engineering, then go for it. And really, with everyone and their dog going into computers, civil engineers are in demand and will be as long as we build, use or maintain infrastructure.

  3. you're actually in luck then.  Computer science is not in demand.  There is a huge excess of programmers out there as everyone jumped on the bandwagon in the late 90's when every dot-commer was making a million.  Now isn't the case.  Anyway, you'll probably make more as an engineer anyway.

  4. Do not pick a career that you find boring, it will not ever become appealing to you, not at any salary.

If you truly have a passion for civil engineering, go after civil engineering.

The demand for computer science fluctuates.  However  due  to the aging infrastrutures in our country and with new expansions, there is a current demand for civil engineers.
