  1. Civil engineers are in high demand.  It is one of the only majors that has a built in career with only a bachelors degree.  All my other friends are in grad school and I've been working as an engineer with a full salary for years.

Construction management is mainly on site and tends to be more outside work in all weather conditions. Engineering tends to be more design oriented and mainly in an office settings but can easily tend toward construction management.  An engineer can easily transfer to construction, but a construction manager cannot easily become an engineer. The best CM's are engineers first.  If you're not sure, start out as an engineer then go work for a construction firm.

  2. My boss was a civil engineer and charged over 200 dollars an hour for his time  but it took a long time to get to that level.  As of about 5 years ago, they were rather desperate to hire new engineers.
