Question:

Claiming tax back on purchases after visiting America?

Hey!

I've recently visited America and made quite a few purchases. I live in the UK and here the government offers a tax back scheme for those visiting from overseas. Is it possible for me to claim my money back that has been paid in tax, as foreigners can in the UK?

Thank you!

  1. The tax paid in the UK that can be claimed back is a VAT.  The US doesn't have a VAT.  Many states, but not all, do have a state sales tax, but that isn't refundable.

  2. No, in the U.S. you will not get the sales tax back.
