Question:

Claiming three on his paycheck?

My husband started claiming three on his paycheck this past week and figured out it was an extra $44 on a 40 hour paycheck (my husband, our son and I. I don't work, so he is the sole provider). Would it stay the same even if it is more than 40 hours a week. He usually work a little over 40 hours. The reason that I am asking is because we are taking that extra $45 and putting it into a high interest savings account, but I want to make sure it is the same no matter how many hours he works. I don't want to not take out enough.

  1. If he makes more some weeks, the difference between claiming zero and claiming 3 will be larger.  But if the two of you file a joint return and claim your son as a dependent, you should be OK and have enough taken out.

  2. You want to make sure that enough taxes are taken out that you do not have to pay at tax time.

  3. well the more hours he works the more it will be. So if he's working more than 40 hours I would take a little extra out on those weeks.
