The former wicketkeeper/batter of England’s women cricket team, Clair Taylor, has expressed contentment after retiring from the game of cricket.
“I’ve achieved everything that I wanted to achieve. When I first started in the game I wanted to be one of the best batters in the world and in 2009 I think I achieved that,” said the 35-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915.
The female cricketer retired from international cricket last week (July 8, 2011) after having an illustrious career which included scoring 4101 runs in 126 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 1030 runs in Test cricket, where she represented her country in
15 games. She has also been an exceptional batter for the home side in the shortest version of the game, the Twenty20, as she smacked 615 runs in 27 fixtures.
She now hopes to mentor upcoming female cricketers from England after taking a break from the game for a few months.
“I’m certainly going to take a rest from the game for the rest of the season. But I will be mentoring some of the younger players that are coming through,” she said.
She was first woman in the game of cricket to have been named the Cricketer of the Year in 2009 by Wisden.
Speaking to the media, she revealed that it had taken her a year to finally decide to bid farewell to the game which she had played for 14 years.
She insisted that at the age of 35, she had achieved great feats while playing for England and this was the appropriate time to leave the sport while she was still at the top.
One of her most memorable performance came in the semi-final of the 2009 World Twenty20 Championship where she clobbered a match-winning knock of 76 runs, helping his side pulverise the Australian team.
