Claire Cashmore claims to be prepared for the 2011 European Championships – Swimming News
The 2009 International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) European Championships bronze medallist, Claire Cashmore, has stated that she is prepared for the upcoming 2011 European Championships, in Berlin.
Claire claims to have an eye at the upcoming world event and said that her focus will only remain on swimming after a month, as her university studies are about to complete.
The 22-year-old said that she is satisfied with her performance in 2011 so far, as she claimed a gold medal at the British International Swimming Championships and two bronze medals at the British Gas Swimming National Championships, this March.
Britain’s Cashmore represented Britain at the 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Games. She has conquered a bronze medal in the 100m breast-stroke at the 2009 European Championships.
The swimmer is happy with her decision of not participating at the German Open Championships, this March, as this gave her time to focus entirely on the completion of her thesis at the University of Leeds.
Cashmore said, “Some athletes split their final year over two years and I do kind of wish I did that. But I am happy I didn’t as well and I am so glad my dissertation is over.”
She added, “It was the worst thing I have ever done in my life and my final exam is on June 3. It is pretty scary that it is all coming to an end but it does mean that swimming will soon be my main focus. It is going to be good to get in the pool before
the Europeans and it is also going to be one of the last times we compete on the world stage before next year’s Paralympics.”
In addition, the British national swimmer said that she is very excited to represent her country at the upcoming world stage. Claire also stressed that with the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, the Berlin European Championships are of immense importance. She
also expressed that she will be giving a tough time to her competitors in Berlin, as she will be defending her titles to meet the expectations of her fans.
