Claire Williams backs Valtteri Bottas as future world champion – Formula 1 news
Williams’ deputy team principal, Claire Williams has backed their driver, Valtteri Bottas as a future world champion despite his poor start to the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Bottas joined the British squad in this season and replaced Bruno Senna who couldn’t secure a race seat at any team for this season. He impressed everyone with his performance at the Young Driver Test in the last year and replaced Senna in many practice
sessions throughout the season.
Despite the fact that he has not been able to score even a single point in the season until now, Williams has expressed full confidence on his abilities and talent. She has asserted that the Finn is a great driver and has the potential of becoming a world
champion in the future. However, she said that they need to give him a competent car so that he may compete well with his rivals and attain competitive results for his team so as to prove his talent.
She also said that the 23-year-old has performed really well in the season until now as he has finished every race and showed some remarkable overtaking tactics. Besides, she said that the Finnish driver has provided them his valuable feedback which they
will use to make further advancements in their car.
“He is so great,” she told the official F1 website. “Cool and calm. He is a typical Finn.”
“I think we definitely have a future world champion at hand - but of course we have to give him the car to allow him to prove his talent. He has done a good job so far. He has finished every race, made up positions with great overtaking manoeuvres, and is
giving strong feedback to the engineers in order to improve the car,” she added.
It will be to mention that Bottas’s teammate, Pastor Maldonado has also struggled with his pace in the first five races and could not score any points for his team. Nevertheless, Williams has said that the Venezuelan driver will hopefully perform well in
the forthcoming races as they are looking forward to provide him an improved car in the season ahead.
