Question:

Clapping to get the class' attention?

I'm in Grade 8, and the teachers clap to get our attention. Like this:

Clap clap clapclapclap.

And we're supposed to clap back.

Clapclapclapclap clap clap.

I think we deserve to be treated with more respect. What should I say to the teacher?? I already told my mom, and she's really pissed for some reason... and she wants to talk to them herself. :S

Help?

  1. Clapping hands for attention and then having you respond w/clapping is juvenile. I would think this activity would just stir your class up more than settle you down.

What can you do? Well, it depends on the teacher and his/her responsiveness to suggestions. It also depends, like someone else said, on whether this is school policy. Is everyone in the class annoyed by it? I helps to have backup.

Perhaps you can first talk this through with your school counselor and get some of the above questions answered.

If all else fails, have a parent discuss this with the teacher at a parent conference, and see if he/she can come to a compromise.

    Good luck.

  2. I know your a young kid.  So saying this you will not understand.

When I was younger we had teachers throw books on our fingers or next to our ears if we were sleeping.  I think your mom should calm down.  IF they are not hitting you then you should not complain.  That is my suggestion.  When your teacher starts calling you a dumb sh** like mine did. Then I suggest talking with your mom.

It sounds like you like to start things up.

  3. yea that is really weird your teachers do that

when your teacher is having a discussion with another teacher or student or is pretty busy, walk by and start clapping to show them what it's like.

the worst they could do is call your mom and then she can talk to them about their clapping

  4. If that's the school's policy for getting student attention and all the teachers do it, then you'll have to deal. Clearly it works, or they wouldn't be doing it. Would you rather they flick the lights? Have everyone put their hands in the air? They all seem just as ridiculous, but the fact remains: they work! Saying, "Excuse me" just doesn't cut it anymore. No one listens.
