Clarinet Mouthpieces?

is there different kinds?...

i have a regular mouthpiece that came with the clarinet when i bought it years ago...

im wondering if it is different from the ones that the mexican "bandas" use?...

if so, what kind do they use?...

im thinking of joining one...

  1. Unless you purchased a high-end clarinet, it most likely came with a plastic mouthpiece.  These are very durable, but will not give you the best sound.

    You can improve your sound by getting a hard rubber mouthpiece.  You should try them out and see which one works best for you, as the tip opening, or the amount of curvature away from the reed at the tip, varies with each mouthpiece.  

    You may also want to invest in a Rovner Ligature (or similar)

    I know nothing about the Mexican "Bandas" players.
