Question:

Clarinet Sounds Reedy?

When I play, all my notes sound "reedy" and it feels like there's some spit in my clarinet or something. Even when the spit's out, a few seconds later after playing, my notes sound reedy again. Any tips on how to solve this?

  1. It sounds like maybe you are using a reed that is too hard.  Go down a half step and see if that helps (ie, if you're using a 3.5, try using a 3).  Also, if it's a new reed, give it a week to get broken in.  Sometimes new reed will do this.

Make sure you're using proper embochure (lips tight, corners of your mouth pulled back towards your ear, chin flat... and try pushing your tongue into an "eeee" position, especially on high notes).

    Hope this helps!  :)

  2. try changing the reed if that doesnt work then, try doing a deep clean on the whole clarinet that should work trust me that happened to me and i did the same thing and it started working for me
