Clark Smith of Denver Swim Academy seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Monday, August 13.
The 17-year-old Smith stunned the aquatic crowd with his mind-blowing performance in the distant butterfly event, where he overpowered the fastest qualifying swimmer in a comfortable manner.
Smith, who entered the playoff as third fastest swimmer, elevated his efforts in the playoff and secured gold medal by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.64 seconds.
His gruelling pace remained nearly two body lengths ahead of James Yoder of Stingrays-GA, who followed his lead on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 00.41 seconds.
Yoder was followed by Matthew Conway of Blue Devil Swim, who failed to sustain his fastest qualification spot in the final round. Conway remained 0.17 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.58 seconds.
Fourth fastest position of the event was secured by Justin Lynch of Terrapins Swim Team, who stayed 0.39 seconds slower and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 00.97 seconds.
Lynch was followed by Andrew Seliskar of CUBU-PV, who remained 0.65 seconds away from his former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 01.62 seconds.
Similarly, Seliskar was followed by Joshua Quallen of Dayton Raiders, who remained one and a half body length behind and settled on the wall as sixth fastest swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.14 seconds.
Quallen remained only 0.20 seconds ahead of Scott Fortier of Area Tallahassee, who completed his swim in seventh place by tapping the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 03.34 seconds.
Fortier was followed by Nickolaus Orf of Parkway Swim Club, who stayed one and a half body length apart and finished eighth in the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.70 seconds.
Furthermore, Smith was happy with his gold claiming effort in the 200m race.
