Clarke Carlisle loses red card appeal
Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle has lot an appeal over the red card he received during the 1-1 draw with Millwall last weekend.
Carlisle was givent red card for a lunging challenger on Millwall's Theo Robinson. The defender and the club took the decision to appeal in the hope that the offence would be downgraded to a yellow card.
"We are disappointed with the outcome. We felt the decision was harsh but we have to accept the verdict and move on. We again showed on Saturday the strength we have within the squad," said Burnley manager
Brian Laws.
Carlisle is one of the best defenders in the club. He is also the Burnley captain at present and the side will miss his leadership presence over the next three games.
Bad news
This is bad news for Burnley because Carlisle plays at the heart of the defence. He keeps the back four organised when Burnley is under intense spells of pressure. This is important for any team that doesn't
want to concede goals.
Carlisle is very vocal out on the pitch in his role as captain. He is able to communicate with the rest of his team very well as well as the referee. Other than Graham Alexander, there are few other players
in the team as effective in the role.
Carlisle's absence from the team means a chance for someone else to hold down a first team place. Danny Fox or Michael Duff are good players to come into the team although neither can match the quality
Carlisle possesses. Duff should get the nod because he has slightly more experience than other players in the club.
"I know that whoever benefits from Clarke’s absence will come in and do a good job for us when we start again after the international break," added Laws.
Betting advice
Burnley has enough defenders across the playing squad to cope without Carlisle for three games. Bet in play until Carlisle is back in the team. The defence will be a little harder to predict while Carlisle
isn't in the team.
