West Brom manager Steve Clarke has hailed his side’s rise to 3rd spot in the league table, and insists that their performances and success this season have been no fluke.
West Brom beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday in a thrilling 2-4 score-line. Clarke insists that there has been nothing lucky about his team’s performance this season, and they fully deserve their position in the league.
The Baggies have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League campaign this season, managing victories over the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Tottenham.
The Birmingham club lies in 3rd spot, much to the surprise of many. However, they are now a force to be reckoned with, and every other team and manager is aware of what West Brom are capable of.
With Manchester City and Manchester United above them, it won’t be premature to say that West Brom have a strong shot at securing a Champions League spot this season. Steve Clarke has urged his team to stay grounded but maintain their fine start to the campaign.
The manager believes his side deserve more points, and should be higher up on the table.
Speaking to reporters, the Scot said:
“It’s certainly not been a lucky start. We’ve earned every point we’ve got. You could even say that we’ve been unlucky not to get more points in some games.”
“It’s been a solid start and we’ve deserved everything we’ve got. We’re third and we deserve to be there. But we won’t get carried away. We don’t think that, because we’re up there, we’re big time Charlies.”
“We’ll stay grounded and keep working hard. But as I’ve said to the players, it could be a good season for us.”
The manager revealed that his primary target was to reach 40 points this season, and as long as they can do that, they’ll be fine. 40 points are normally regarded as enough to secure a place in the Premier League, but considering the way West Brom have been
playing, they will probably finish the season with points much higher than Clarke’s target.
The Baggies next travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City, who have also been in good form so far this season.
