The 49-year-old tactician has expressed confidence in his troops’ abilities, and has dismissed claims that his side lacks firepower to compete successfully in English Premier League.
West Bromwich Albion head coach, Steve Clarke, has expressed his satisfaction over the Baggies’ performances thus far, and has dismissed claims that his side lacks firepower upfront.
WBA commenced the 2012/13 campaign in scintillating form and stunned everyone with their consistent results. However, four games winless streak has now dropped them down to the seventh spot in the Premier League standings, trailing the league leaders, Manchester
United, by a mammoth 15 points.
The Baggies have struggled to hit the back of the net consistently in their recent games that prompted many to claim that they lack firepower to compete at the highest level.
However, Clarke has expressed complete satisfaction with his side’s performances thus far, and has insisted that his side has proven that they can score goals at ease.
“I don’t look at statistics, I look at the way the team is playing and the team has been playing OK. I have got nothing to worry about in terms of goalscoring because we have proved this season that we can score goals”, the 49-year-old tactician was quoted
as saying to the media.
The Baggies recorded a hard fought goalless draw in their last league game against West Ham United on December 22 after suffering three successive defeats.
And the Scottish trainer has revealed that his side’s priority heading into the game against the Hammers was to secure at least a point, which they did at the end of 90 minutes.
“We knew on Sunday that we had to stop a run of three defeats. That was important. We couldn’t get the goal but we defended as though we really wanted to get the result and that’s pleasing”, Clarke added.
The former St. Mirren defender went on to insist that there are some games that are meant to be ended in a stalemate, and Sunday’s match against West Ham was one of them.
“Sometimes you have to draw games. On Sunday there weren’t many chances and both teams huffed and puffed and never really created anything and probably looked most dangerous on set-plays”, Clarke concluded.
WBA will lock horns against Norwich City in their next Premier League game at home on December 22.
