West Brom manager Steve Clarke has slated his team for their dismal home performance against West Ham last night and said that a point was all they deserved.
The Baggies boss was not happy with his side’s performance and believes that his players did not do enough to get the three points. West Brom needed a win to keep up their momentum for a top 4 finish, but failed to capitalize as West Ham frustrated them
and saw out an important away draw.
The manager said that his team should be thankful for even winning the point, but was a little bit relieved to see his side end a three-game losing streak in the 0-0 score line at the Hawthorns.
West Brom failed to find their feet and rhythm and were unable to break down a resilient and disciplined Hammers side. Clarke was left with mixed emotions as he faced his former club, and tried to hide his disappointment after the game ended in a stalemate.
Speaking to local press and media, the Scot said:
“I can’t say I’m disappointed not to win it because I felt the draw was the right result. We didn’t do enough to get the three points, as the home team the onus was on us to go and get the win, which we tried to do, but it didn’t happen.”
“We wanted to put in a strong defensive performance to make sure the worst we got was a point and that’s what it turned out we had to accept. When you come to a game on the back of three defeats, there is always going to be that bit of nervousness about
the players and spectators.”
Clarke then went on to analyze the game, and said that his team started the game brightly but faded away towards the end. The manager had all his first team players out on the pitch that night, including the likes of Shane Long, Youssouf Mulumbu and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-c18967
Olsson, but the players failed to make West Ham work.
West Brom are now at 6th spot on the league table, and will host Norwich City at the Hawthorns this coming weekend.
