Clarke backs Hughes to get a national recall soon – Cricket News Update
The Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, on Thursday backed out of favour Phillip Hughes for a national recall, saying that the young batsman has a lot of international cricket ahead of him.
"I am very confident he will play well to be re-selected for Australia," said Clarke during a media encounter in London, ahead of the opening One Day International of the five-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at Lord’s.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185, the 23-year-old New South Wales batsman, who has not played a Test match for Australia since December last year, was overlooked for Cricket Australia's central contracts last week. The top-order batsman, who is yet to debut in the limited
overs formats of the game, on Thursday announced that he would be leaving his previous state team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 on a three-year deal.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 said that all that would matter in the end would be the runs scored by the batsman, and not where they were made.
"The most important thing for Phil Hughes is to make as many runs as he possibly can," said Clarke
"It does not matter where you play it is about scoring runs and trying to get picked for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and I am pretty sure that is what Hughesy's attitude will be as a player,” he added further.
Hughes, the New South Wales born opening batsman made his Test debut in February 2009 against South Africa at Johannesburg, and has so far played 17 Tests, scoring 1072 runs at an average of 34.58. The tally also includes three centuries. He scored back-to-back
centuries in his second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Durban in 2009, to become the youngest player to do so.
However, he has not played for Australia since being dismissed for 4 and 20 in the home Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at Hobart in December last year.
"The next two years are the most critical in my cricket career," Hughes told reporters on Thursday, after announcing his move.
"And I'm not going to leave any stone unturned to make sure I put myself back into contention to play again for Australia," he added further.
