West Brom manager Steve Clarke has praised the attitude of striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 after he returned from a three-match ban and put in impressive performances against QPR, Manchester City and Newcastle United.
The Nigerian international was sent off in West Brom’s first loss of the season which came against Fulham last month. The player had lashed out following a tackle from a Fulham player, and was rightly given his marching orders by the referee.
Odemwingie took full responsibility for his actions, and apologized to the West Brom fans and vowed to make up for his behaviour. He also revealed his fears of being unable to break into the Baggies’ first team set up.
The player returned in the game against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, and has been impressive ever since he got back into the side. He also featured in the recent consecutive defeats against Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Manager Steve Clarke was impressed by the striker’s attitude and hopes that the 31-year old can continue to impress and take this form into Monday’s game against Southampton.
Speaking to reporters about Odemwingie, Clarke said:
“His sending off was a blow for him. I think he has learned his lesson and he showed that in the game against QPR. I put him back in for that game and he played really well and he did what I thought he would do.”
“He came in and made his contribution against Manchester City and Newcastle as well. I think Peter has always been motivated.”
Although primarily a striker, Odemwingie has recently been deployed on the wings in order to make room for West Brom’s new signings and strike force. The likes of Shane Long, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 and Markus Rosenberg have been deemed more suitable for a central
role by Clarke, and Odemwingie is more than happy to assist his teammates from the flanks.
“I remember watching West Brom last year and Peter played off the right and got some goals from there. It is a position he plays. It's not a new position for Peter,” Clarke added.
West Brom will host Southampton at the Hawthorns this weekend in the Premier League, and will be targeting a win after two successive defeats.
