Australian batsmen did enough to counter the formidable spin attack of Pakistan and script a four-wicket win in the opening one-dayer in Sharjah by four wickets, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 feels they still need to improve in playing spin.
Speaking to media reporters on Thursday, the Aussie skipper hoped his batsmen will show improvement against the high-profile Pakistan spin trio of Pakistan, when the two sides clash in the second One Day International of the three-match
series in Abu Dhabi, on Friday, August 31, 2012.
“Playing spin bowling is an area of our game that we need to continue to improve,” said Clarke who played a match winning knock of 66 runs while chasing a modest target of 199, in Sharjah, on Tuesday. “It's something that we've focused
on when we've played away from home," he added further.
It was being anticipated that the Australians might struggle against Pakistan in the unfamiliar conditions in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033. But the former World Champions defying all odds, outclassed the Men in Green in all the three departments
of the game, bowling the opposition out for a meagre 198 in 45.1 overs, before chasing down the paltry total in 48.2 overs, with four wickets to spare.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 led the successful run chase, scoring respective half centuries.
Clarke was delighted to secure victory in the opening one-dayer.
"Apart from myself, I think it's everyone's first time playing cricket here in this heat in these conditions so that's why it's more pleasing to have won," said the Aussie skipper, who led them to a 3-2 series win over Pakistan the last
time the two sides had met in UAE in 2009.
The 31-year-old New South Welshman, who earlier scored a half century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 in the one-off ODI hoped to see a ton from his side in Abu Dhabi.
“There's enough there for both fast bowlers and spin (on Abdu Dhabi pitch). I'd love to see somebody in our top four go on and make a big score, make a hundred,” said the Australian captain, adding, “I've got two starts and I haven't been
able to go on (to score century).”
The Aussies currently hold a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and need just one more win to clinch the series.
