West Brom manager Steve Clarke is confident ahead of today’s clash against reigning champions Manchester City, and believes he has the squad depth to cope with the demands of the Premier League.
The Baggies will host the champions today at the Hawthorns in what looks set to be Steve Clarke’s first and most serious challenge of the season.
West Brom are in excellent shape and lie sixth in the table, with 14 points to their name. The club is currently tied on points with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, teams against which they have done pretty well so far.
West Brom defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in their opening game of the campaign.
Manchester City have also been very impressive, and are currently unbeaten in the league. However, the champions have shown that they are defensively frail, and prone to the occasional defensive error.
Clarke believes his squad is in good shape ahead of the clash. Despite the prospect of losing important players such as Youssouf Mulumbu and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 in January for the African Cup of Nations, the manager remains confident that his side has the ability
to cope and cover for the duo’s absence.
Speaking ahead of today’s game, Clarke discussed his satisfaction with his squad and players, and their excellent performances so far.
"In the Premier League in general you need a strong squad, which is something we've tried to build at Albion this year," said Clarke. “I think over the first seven games we've shown that our squad is strong enough. That’s really important when you’re trying
to build a good team and squad.”
The manager believes that City will retain the English title, despite not making the strongest start to their season. He added:
"At this moment in time I'd say Manchester City are still the favourites to win the league. They haven't shown that they've gone backwards from last year. They're a strong squad and if you're going to compete up there at that level, then you need one."
