Clarke is the best choice to lead Australia: Brad Haddin
Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has backed Michael Clarke for the job of national team captain. Haddin feels that Clarke is the right choice to lead the depleted Australian team, which is under the pump following their massive innings and 157 runs defeat
in the Boxing Day Test.
Meanwhile, Haddin, who has been made the vice-captain for the Sydney Test, has found Clarke a competent choice after spending a complete day with the new skipper. However, Clarke will be under immense pressure because Australia is on the verge of losing
a home series to England for the first time in 24 years. Expectedly, the appointment of a new leader is always seen as a fresh beginning, but for Clarke it is a tough situation. However, if the home team manages to lose the Ashes series, the nascent skipper
will be seen as a failed selection.
Clarke was appointed as captain, when regular skipper Ricky Ponting injured his finger during the fourth Test and was ruled of the fifth Test match in Sydney. In the ongoing series against England, Clarke has failed to make an impression with the bat, scoring
just 148 runs at an average of 21. Apart from his 80-run innings in Adelaide, the right-hand batsman hasn’t contributed substantially to his team’s cause.
Haddin said, "He is ready to do this job. He'd be excited about the prospect of captaining http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and he will do a very, very good job. We're 100 percent behind him and being a good mate of mine, I'll support him in any way I can. He deserves to be in
this position ... he's the best man for the job."
Haddin has played 31 Test matches and his career began after the retirement of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918. The 33-year old has filled Gilchrist’s boots pretty well so far. In his short Test career, he has amassed 1869 runs at an average of 40. In addition to his runs,
the present wicket-keeper has taken 116 catches and three stumpings. Previously, the Australian wicket-keeper batsman has led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 in domestic competitions. He relishes his experience with his domestic side and is ready to help Clarke in every aspect
of the game.
Only time will tell how beneficial the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120-Haddin combination proves to be in the final Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Currently, England is leading the series by an unassailable margin of 2-1. The New Year’s Test might bring back some
joy and happiness on the faces of disappointed fans in the land of Kangaroos.
