Clarke urges West Brom to stay focused after Chelsea victory

West Brom manager Steve Clarke has urged his team not to get carried away after the 2-1 victory over European champions Chelsea last night and wants them to remain focused.
The Baggies hosted the Blues last night at the Hawthorns in what has to be their second stern challenged of the season. Having only lost at home once against Manchester City last month West Brom went into the game with confidence.
Chelsea had suffered two draws in the league prior to last night’s game, and have not looked as good as they were towards the start of the season.

Up front, Shane Long constantly threatened the Chelsea backline, and ultimately got the first goal of the night through a fine headed effort. West Brom then pressed for more, and Chelsea were struggling.

The Nigerian sent the Baggies faithful into a roar of frenzy and jubilation as West Brom took a deserved and well fought lead.

Speaking to press after the game, Clarke urged his team to stay grounded despite the result. He said:
“Can we think of the Champions League? I don’t look that far ahead. I look from game to game. It is a great time to be at the club and if the supporters want to dream a bit, they can, but within the camp, we will keep our feet on the ground.”
