The Cricket Australia chief selector, John Inverarity, is hopeful that regular Aussie skipper Michael Clarke will be completely fit to take the reins back in next month’s Test series against the West Indies.
"It is anticipated Michael Clarke will be fully recovered and take his place as Captain for the first Test match in Barbados beginning on Saturday 7 April,” said Inverarity while speaking to media reporters after Australian selectors
announced the squad for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Test series on Wednesday.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 is currently
battling a hamstring injury that he had sustained during the recently concluded triangular Commonwealth Bank series. The injury not only kept him out of three CB series matches, including the series clinching third final against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, but also ruled him
out of the ODI and T20 series against the West Indies.
In his absence, Shane Watson, who himself has recently returned from a three-month-long injury layoff was leading the side.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match Test series which starts in Barbados on April 7, 2012.
Shaun Marsh has been overlooked following his horrid run in the four-match home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 earlier this year. In his absence, Shane Watson is likely to be given the one-down role, Inverarity hinted.
"Shane Watson will come back into the Test XI and he could replace http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 in the vitally important number three position while James Pattinson's availability will be welcomed after his excellent performances during the first
four Test matches of his career during the Australian summer.”
Replying to a query, the CA chief selector said that Patrick Cummins was not considered for selection as he has not fully recovered from the bone stress injury in his foot.
