http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s head coach, Mickey Arthur, is not concerned about the long-term implications of skipper Michael Clarke’s current hamstring injury, and has expressed confidence in the player’s ability to manage the condition effectively and make a comeback.
“Michael is the most professional guy I've certainly seen in my time in terms of the way he manages his body (and) the way he goes about his treatment,” Arthur said. “He is very methodical and very professional, so he has got every chance to keep getting
it right.”
The skipper sustained a hamstring injury during his team’s previous match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the 2nd final of the ongoing triangular series, and will be sitting out the last deciding final scheduled for March 8 at the Adelaide Oval. He has also
been ruled out of the limited-overs leg of the upcoming tour in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, but is expected to recover in time for the Test series.
“I think Mike has missed 15 ODIs through injury (but) he hasn't missed a Test yet ... so no area for concern just yet,” Arthur said.
The Aussies’ tour of West Indies is scheduled to kick off on March 16, with a 5-match ODI series and 2 T20 matches. These will be followed by the 3-Test series, which will commence on April 7 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Clarke has been battling a slew of injuries these past few months – a hamstring strain in his right leg saw him sitting out 3 matches in the ongoing CB series, and he also suffered from a minor back problem. The first final at the Gabba on March 4 marked
his return from the injury, but in trying to avoid putting too much stress on his right leg, Clarke ended up damaging his left hamstring.
The 30-year-old expressed regret saying he might have rushed his return, but Arthur felt it was worth it. Australia emerged victorious in the first final and despite their loss in the 2nd match, Clarke displayed fine form with a stellar 117-run
knock.
“When you get to the finals, we were always prepared to risk a player in order to win a final. So I certainly think it was worth the risk,” the coach said.
