  1. A good sociology question.  The whole drive behind sociology is to use scientific methods to develop theory which can explain and predict human behavior in social groups.  So the variables sociologists use to analyze social behavior relate to aspects or ways to categorize social institutions.   The idea that people's self image develops in social interaction with family, peers, and other networks is key to your question.  Research shows that the world view on develops, is related to their social class or position economically.  Their gender is a factor in how people respond to a person as well, which influences their life experience, career choices, and so on.  Race/ethnicity also give people unique types of cultural experiences, which lead them to see the world and other obvious groups *( like race), as 'out group', compared to their in group, norms and values.    So society is based on norms, or shared expectations, in all groups.  Not sure what you mean by normative organizations, for all 'institutions', and 'organizations' develop norms that influence how people behave within them.  Hope this is not to general a response to your interesting querie.

Long history of white superiority like during  slavery...

  4. Rich, white, and males tend to participate more.  Poor, minorities, and females do not participate as much.  This is because rich people, white people, and males tend to be the dominant figures in our society.  The other groups are not.
