  1. Both of those answers are right AND wrong. There is a Machine gun dealer liscence. It allows you to buy post 86 machine guns.  You need to have a Federal Firearms Dealers Liscence (FFL) and pay the Special occupational tax, SOT..

The problem becomes, ATF is checking zoning before approving any FFL's unless you have an address that can be zoned for a gun store, they will not grant you an FFL of any sort , much less an FFL/SOT.

In addition to that FFL/SOT has an annual fee attached, I think last time I looked into it it was $5,000 a year ( I could be way off on that particular detail)

Just in order to own a full auto , the above posters are correct , all you need is a tax stamp that costs a one time $200, An Approved ATF form 4 and the Cheif of police to SIGN that form 4 before it is submitted.... And a minimum of $3500 for the gun as that's pretty close to what the cheapest full auto (a mac-10) costs these days......

  2. The tax stamp is $200, and is handled through BTAFE.

The GUNS are expensive, and while they are still produced throughout the world today, only ones registered in the US before 1986 are available for civilian purchase.  Entry level pricing for something that is both commonplace and not in very good shape is around $10,000.

  3. Not a license, it is a tax stamp.   As long as you have a clean background and live in a state that allows them it isn't to hard.

Affording them is a different story. None have been produced since 1986
