  1. Monosaccharides are for use as fuel. Disaccharides are transport sugars. Sucrose is transported in the phloem in plants. Lactose is transported from mother to baby. Maltose is released from starch by amylase. Polysaccharides are for storage: starch in plants and glycogen in animals. Cellulose is used in structure in plants.
