Question:

Classic 1940’s - 1960’s Chris Craft recommendations?

I’m looking into buying a classic Chris Craft wooden boat and was wondering what boat would be good for the ocean (live on the Boston North Shore). I like the look of the Capri, Riviera or Custom Runabout but think the open deck like the Continental and Sportsman might suit us better. Are these boats capable of regular salt water activity? How do they handle?

  1. For big water, the Chris Craft Sea Skiff is probably the best way to go. The classic runabouts that you mention are lousy in more than a 1' chop. The Sea Skiff can handle rougher water while keeping the crew dry.

The SeaSkiff is Chris Smiths (grandson of ChrisCraft founder) personal boat of choice for these reasons.
