When I say "Classic Down-Home Cooking" what food comes to your mind?? (For example, is it mac n cheese, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, pot roast, spaghetti and meatballs, or something else?

Give me some ideas, please......What's your idea of "Classic Down-Home Cooking?"

Before I even read your examples I immediately thought of meatloaf and mac and cheese.

Meatloaf, red beans and rice, jambalaya, gumbo, mashed potatoes and gravy, shrimp creole, stuffed bell peppers

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh vegetables cooked from the garden, meatloaf, pot roast, squash casserole, chicken and dumplings, macaroni and cheese, pinto beans and rice, home made cakes and pies, cubed steak and gravy.

First thing that came to mind was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, home-made pie. Stuff like that. Corn bread, stew, rice and beans, fresh watermelon. Part of my family is from the south, so that reflects in my opinion of what I would call down home cooking.

Deep fried catfish and hush puppies must be on this list.  Others are fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and corn on the cob.  For breakfast, you have to include grits.

Fried chicken or meat loaf with mashed potatoes ... pot roast ...  Mac & Cheese.  My husband also loves homemade chicken pot pie....
