Classic bikes question?

ive got a bsa c15 s prodject but im just wondering about this. there is some large rubber washers and a rubber cover for tthe front forks. what do you do with the rubber washers? are they for the cover? they have springs in the washers. the forks are oil.

  1. Depending on the model year, BSA was a well trusted British motorcycle.  The rubber covers on the front forks were known as gatiers which served the purpose of dust covers to prolong the life of the fork seals and also improve asthetics.  British bikes were NOT reputed to be leak proof and so the tolerances of some parts were crude by todays's standards.  However they had a rugged charm of their own and quite a long life.


  2. these washer's with springs are oil seals they go on the top of the fork leg to keep the oil in

  3. Those are fork tube seals that go into the lower legs and get covered by the rubber covers

  4. The rubber washers (or bushes) are for the fork links.
