I don't understand why, if this is the BETA version of Yahoo Mobile Mail, people now have no option except to use it. Why did Yahoo take away the classic version of Yahoo Mobile Mail?

I wrote to them, but who knows if they'll even respond: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mobile/general.html

  1. I am havign the same problem and it is driving me crazy!  please please please please yahoo bring back classic for mobile, at least as an option!  I will have to cancel my sprint subscription if you dont because checking email is the main reason i have this phone!   I also submitted the online supoprt query...

  2. I couldn't agree more. Yahoo Customer Support, if you're reading, PLEASE enable the choice to switch to classic...Beta is a LONG way from releasable, at least to people who use more features of Yahoo Mail than just skimming through the standard "Inbox". The standard feature set of Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Mobile Mail Classic (checking external accounts, filtering mail to other folders, and seeing unread messages in all folders at a glance) is what makes Yahoo Mail so great. Yahoo Mail Mobile Beta yanked all those features, plummeting it into the abyss of "me-too" email interfaces and non-useful Internet apps.

    I hate to complain about Yahoo, since I've been a staunch fan for over a decade, but this has to change! Give us Mobile Mail Classic or enable all of Classic's features in the Beta version.

    Also, I found a new annoyance...because the "Check Other Mail" feature "conveniently" checks ALL your other POP accounts, instead of allowing you to choose, I keep getting  multiple copies of the same messages on the POP servers from which I don't normally pull down mail from the POP server (which is why I used to only check the one POP account frequently, and the others only when I needed to)...now there's no choice, all POP mail comes down from ALL POP accounts EVERY time you click it!

    OK...so just as a usability study, let's examine the use case scenario from Classic to Beta for checking POP Mail.

    =====Classic:

    1. Activate phone's web browser.

    2. Press shoulder key to bring up browser menu.

    3. Press 4,3 (numerical shortcuts for "Bookmarks" -->"Yahoo Mail - Check Other Mail".

    4. Press 3 (numerical shortcut for the server I usually check).

    5. View the report (2 messages or no new mail, etc).

    6. Scroll down a few items to "Yahoo Mail" and click to move to the folder overview page with the standard all-folder new message counts.

    7. View how many new messages are in the folder (and other folders) at a quick glance and then press 3 (numerical shortcut for the personal folder which contains that POP mail).

    8. Read important messages.

    9. Close phone...go on about your day.

    =====And now...with Beta:

    1. Activate phone's web browser.

    2. Press shoulder key to bring up browser menu.

    3. Press 4,3 (numerical shortcuts for "Bookmarks" -->"Yahoo Mail - Check Other Mail".

    4. Notice that this no longer works, since the old URLs have all been forwarded to Beta' main page, listing only 5 messages in the Inbox and not showing anything else (number of total unread messages in Inbox or any other folder).

    5. Sroll WAY down until you see "Check other Mail"..click.

    6. Wait forever since it's now checking ALL POP accounts...*grumble*.

    7. Watch it return to the main page without ANY notification of messages downloaded/or not, number of unread, etc.

    8. Scroll WAY down to "All Folders".

    9. Disappointedly look at the folder list, which lacks any numbers of unread messages per folder.

    10. Realize that you will have to manually enter each folder to find out if anything was downloaded as "New".

    11. Knowing the folder you tried to check POP mail for, at least check THAT one folder manually.

    12. Get impatient with the fact that Beta shows less messages before "next page" than Classic did, since it does not follow the phone's web browser's "Font Size" setting.

    13. Look at important messages.

    14. Vow to check your mail from your phone using Beta as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE (perhaps that's good, since Classic was so easy, I would do it compulsively).

    15. Close phone...cry. ;)
