How many hours a day, and what is your routine like? Also, what are you currently working on, and do you often attend master classes?

  1. When I first started, I practiced 8 hours a day because I wanted to learn fast and be proficient in scales, chording, writing and composing . I have attained that level of confidence and doing Studio Session on a daily basis.

You might find it funny but I never attended masters class and am self taught once I have understood the main things.

Many good guitarist are self taught . Look at the best flamenco guitar players and many classical players.

The secret is to practice daily. Work on arpeggios, diminished scale as these are widely used in heavy metal as well.

    Good Luck !!

  2. i think you're thinking that classical guitarist are the guitarrist like paco de lucia. im a classical player, but i, by no means, will attend a "master" class.

i have worked up some works by pacciabelo and so on and practice for 3 hours

  3. Usually about an hour a day when I'm playing a regular gig somewhere.  But, during the off season, it can be anywhere from an hour until I just get tired.

Just because I play a Classical Guitar, I also play Acoustic Guitar, so I try to divide my time between the two when practicing.  This is especially important during my off season because I tend to lose the callouses after a month of just playing the classical guitar, so I always try to include time on an Acoustic guitar to keep my fingers in shape.

I play just about everything on the Classical Guitar that I do on the Acoustic guitar... because "Classical" may be in the name, but that doesn't mean you can only play classical music on it... Playing Classical guitar is all about TECHNIQUE and by playing Classical guitar, it keeps my TECHNIQUE sharp... even for playing Acoustic Guitar.

I am currently working on learning "The Four Seasons" (a Suite of Themes) by Antonio Vivaldi and am specifically working on the Theme from "Summer" Op. 8, No 2

I am also re-visiting some of the old Beatles standards that I learned to play years ago and now I am trying to play them the same way McCartney plays them

I am also writing a short piece for 3 Guitars based on modern African rhythms.
