22 ANSWERS

  1. Luis Gonzalez and Sean Casey

  2. Hank Aaron . The stuff he had to put up with pursuing Babe Ruth was deplorable. When barry Bonds was chasing his record and then broke it he at least made a video presentation and considering all the steroids allegations he really did not have to do that.

  3. gotta be KIRBY R.I.P. KIRBY PUCKETT. HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND ALWAYS HAD SOMETHIN TO SAY THAT WAS NICE TO THE UMPIRES AND THE FIRST BASEMAN WHEN HE GOT ON BASE. I AM FROM MN BUT WHAT OTHER PLAYER HAVE U SAW WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE WHEN YOUR DOWN 8 RUNS?

  4. John Rocker

  5. Here are my top 10 in particular order

    Dale Murphy

    Ernie Banks

    Roy Campanella

    Stan Musial

    Christy Mathewson

    Walter Johnson

    Tony Gwynn

    Cal Ripken Jr.

    Lou Gehrig

    Hank Greenberg

  6. 1. Derek Jeter

    2. Cal Ripken

    3. Lou Gehrig

    4. Hank Aaron

    5. Ozzie Smith

  7. I always hear the announcers say Damion Easley is a great sportsmen and leader for the met's he's a great mentor to the younger players plus i just love that guy

  8. Christy Mathewson was so honest that umpires would reportedly sometimes ask for his help on a close play (there was often only one umpire, maybe two, working games in those days, and the umps were often out of position to see a play.   It was not unusual for a gentleman like Mathewson to put the principal of honesty over that of team loyalty).

Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner, Lou Gehrig, Charlie Gehringer, Stan Musial, Gil Hodges, Yogi Berra, Roy Campanella, Willie Stargell, Tom Seaver, Cal Ripken were some of the most gentlemanly players ever...which is not to say they weren't every bit as competitive as any SOB they played against....but they were all known as total class acts...

Some of the classiest men were guys who played in the Ne-gro Leagues and never got a chance to play in the majors... guys like Buck O'Neill,  Cool Papa Bell, Satchel Paige, Judy Johnson, John Henry Lloyd (who was known as the "black Honus Wagner", of which the authentic Wagner was very proud and honored by the comparison)...

In Mathewson's case, after the Merkle game (against the Cubs in 1908) the Giants reportedly asked him to go with Fred Merkle out to second base at the Polo Grounds late at night, when no one was around, so that, if asked by the League President, Mathewson could truthfully say that he saw Merkle touch second base.   Whether that's true or not, it certainly COULD be true, and it's believable precisely  because of the respect Mathewson commanded as a sportsman.

  9. Lou Gehrig

  10. i dont know about all time, but currently i would say that Roy Halladay is a pretty classy guy.

His down to earth attitude and his teamwork are second to none.

  11. Jim Thome

  12. Roberto Clemente

A top athlete, New Years Eve, flying a mission of mercy to help earthquake victims in Nicaragua.  Gave his life in the effort.  Who does that?

  13. Cal Ripken.

  14. Derek Jeter or Henry Louis "Lou" Gherig.

  15. Ryne Sandberg (a lot of greats always spoke highly of him) or

Mickey Mantle (his teammates always talked highly of him) or

Luis Gonzalez (teams & fans away from the ballpark all talk about how approachable he is...self included)

  16. Ken Griffey Jr.

    Jim Thome

    Lou Gehrig

  17. Ernie Banks

  18. I'd say either Cal Ripken or Tony Gwynn.

  19. ken griffey jr

  20. Roy Campanella

  21. Pat Neshek.  Can't be any more fan friendly than him.  Check out his website.  http://www.eteamz.com/patneshek/

  22. Walter Johnson. I read somewhere that "darn" was the worst thing that crossed his lips!  He was a very well respected ball player.
