  1. You could use this guide to college mascots as a starting point:

  2. it doesn't really  matter, does it?  Any stuffed animal you find cute that is in good condition at a garage sale - then you can go from there.  We have a bear and he's Mr. Bear and he asks us a question each day.  He wears our preschool t-shirt and he's a part of our class.

  3. My daughters classroom has a stuffed bear.  Every year the teacher holds a vote on what the bear's name should be.  My daughters class picked Cuddly Bear.  I think last year it was Ninja Bear or something like that.  You can then dress the stuffed animal in school attire or if you have a local college team the mascot could be a college sports fan.

  4. here's a really great article on mascots for a preschool classroom and how to use the mascot throughout the year. at the end it give some suggestions for mascots and how to put them in a bulletin board at the beginning of the year (in your case, summer):

have you worked with this group of kids before to know what they are interested in? you could actually make a bulletin board with about three mascots on it and let the kids 'vote' on their favorite. i've found that kids just want to vote for everything if you have them vote by raising their hand, so give them each a sticky note with their name on it (or let them write their name on it if they are that far along) and have them put the sticky note on their favorite mascot.

then it'll give the mascot more meaning to the group of kids.

  5. I like to incorporate my students' ideas in things like this.  If something needs to be up before the camp starts, you could set up a "mystery mascot" board.  A big question mark or a cloud covering a blank spot on the board.

Then from there, you can either take the kids ideas, and brainstorm a "new" animal (think combination between teddy bear, puppy, and lion, or whatever ideas the children have.)  OR you can put multiple different animals on different tables (think beanie babies) and have the children put a sticker on the table next to each animal they'd want for a mascot.  The animal with the most stickers wins!

  6. If not animals then how about cartoon characters... hold a little election to find out your kids' favorite toon... and if that doesn't workout hold a 'character design contest' wherein kids can draw their very own characters and u can select the best and the winning character becomes ur mascot...

    Hope it helps
