My mom is coming in to town in a couple months and she wants to take my boyfriend and I to a bar in Chicago.. (to celebrate my 21st birthday).. but I want to go to a real classy bar... not one where there are tons of half naked women dancing on the bar and such.. because that would just be WAY too awkward...

so if anyone knows of any fun, but classy bars in Chicago PLEASE let me know..

  1. classy and bar don't mix. in Chicago there are all kinds of places to go there great restaurants where you can have a great B-day Navy Pier is a nice place. Bar and Grills on Wabash and Randolph on Taylor street there are other nice ones The hotels have good dinning areas.

Sorry about the wanting to steer you away from drinking but have safe fun with your mom and enjoy your b-day.

  2. Jillys at 1007 N. Rush Street. Its a jazzy piano bar. Love that place. They have two levels also. Look them up online. Jillyschicago.com. Have fun!!!!

  3. You may enjoy the Signature Room Lounge if you're looking for a little bit of class. It's at the top of the John Hancock Building and offers 360-degree views of the city. Absolutely breathtaking and they make a mean martini. http://www.signatureroom.com/lounge/defa...

The Redhead Piano Bar over on Ontario by State Street is another fun locale serving up strong top shelf drinks with live music. The pianists play everything under the sun and it's a really good time to sing and celebrate. http://www.redheadpianobar.com/

One of my personal favorites is a hidden gem called Swirl. It's a wine bar on Hubbard just west of Clark Street. They have live entertainment on the weekends and the wine is all hand selected. Mixed drinks here are incredible as well. It's a very mellow yet upscale feel, with a down to earth crowd. You really can't go wrong here.

Violet Hour over in Bucktown at 1520 N. Damen is a fantastic find, too. It's marked by a single lightbulb from the street (no sign or anything, although there is a doorman to help you find the entrance).

The Suite Lounge in Old Town on Wells (just below North Avenue) is another relaxed place. They've got a wonderful menu and some truly innovative drinks. http://suite-lounge.com/

A new Champagne bar opened downtown within the past few months called Pops For Champagne. I haven't been there personally yet, but my friend has and raves about the service and character and vibe of the bar in the evening. http://www.popsforchampagne.com/

Moda is another classy bar that centers around "high fashion" in a way. Some folks view it as a place to see and be seen as there have been multiple celebrity sightings in the past. http://www.clubmodachicago.com/

Hotel Bars are another way to keep the "class factor" at play. If you check out nicer hotels like the Penninsula, Knickerbocker, Drake, etc...you're more than likely going to find a nice bar inside.

You can continue to search for your ideal watering hole at the Chicago portion of MetroMix.com.

I would like to add one little recommendation. I know you want to come up and celebrate in style and class (as you should!) but do consider hitting up a lively, exciting (but non-disgusting) establishment such as Howl at the Moon (on W. Hubbard). I have brought my parents there before and they've loved every minute of it.

Regardless of how you decide to celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful time in the windy city! Happy Birthday!
