Claude Puel quits as coach of Olympique Lyonnais – Ligue 1 news
Ligue 1 side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 have announced that Claude Puel has been relieved from his post as the coach of the Rhone giants.
President of the club, Jean-Michel Aulas issued an official statement on the club’s official website. The statement said, “We regret to inform of the departure of Claude Puel. Puel is no more the head coach of the club.”  The Castres native is now looking
to move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Garcia Macua wins the ongoing presidential elections.
The question still remains if Claude Puel will challenge the termination of his contract which still had a year left on it. According to French laws, Puel can enter the labour court to obtain around 4 million $ in compensation from Lyon.
Former Lyon player Remi Garde was the favourite to replace Claude Puel for a long time and has now taken the role of the head coach of Les Gones.  http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bruno-c8098 Genesio, also a former player will be his assistant.
Claude Puel joined Olympique de Lyonnais on June 2008 on a four-year contract. In his three years in charge of Les Gones, Puel failed to guide Lyon to Ligue 1 glory. During his reign, Lyon spent three years without winning any silverware. However, the Frenchman
guided Lyon to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League in 2010 for the first time in the club’s history.
Things never quite worked out for Puel since his arrival at Lyon. Though the club’s direction was patient with the former Lille man, Lyon’s failure to stamp their authority in French football was hard to digest after the club saw a great start to the new
millennium in which they won seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles. However, Puel has a proven record of getting the best out of teams he is in charge of. His first coaching role was at AS Monaco in 1999. Puel guided the Monegasque club to its seventh Ligue 1 title
in the 1999/2000 Ligue 1 season in his first season. A move to Athletic Bilbao could go a long way in developing Puel’s coaching abilities and could also be a good change for the former AS Monaco player.
