The question still remains if Claude Puel will challenge the termination of his contract which still had a year left on it. According to French laws, Puel can enter the labour court to obtain around 4 million $ in compensation from Lyon.

Claude Puel joined Olympique de Lyonnais on June 2008 on a four-year contract. In his three years in charge of Les Gones, Puel failed to guide Lyon to Ligue 1 glory. During his reign, Lyon spent three years without winning any silverware. However, the Frenchman
guided Lyon to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League in 2010 for the first time in the club’s history.
Things never quite worked out for Puel since his arrival at Lyon. Though the club’s direction was patient with the former Lille man, Lyon’s failure to stamp their authority in French football was hard to digest after the club saw a great start to the new
millennium in which they won seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles. However, Puel has a proven record of getting the best out of teams he is in charge of. His first coaching role was at AS Monaco in 1999. Puel guided the Monegasque club to its seventh Ligue 1 title
in the 1999/2000 Ligue 1 season in his first season. A move to Athletic Bilbao could go a long way in developing Puel’s coaching abilities and could also be a good change for the former AS Monaco player.
