In an interview with Le Progress, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 coach spoke about the hard times he had faced during his time as the coach of Lyon and also said that Aulas should look at himself in the mirror
He may have taken a big step back this season, but Claude Puel has still not been spared by Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas who regularly lambasts him in the media.
“He betrayed me and Olympique Lyonnais,” said Jean-Michel Aulas who always loves to have a jibe at his former coach who he sacked last summer.
In his three-year reign, Claude Puel was unable to guide Les Gones to any silverware which the club had become so accustomed to since the turn of the new millennium.
When interviewed by Le Progres, the former Lyon coach responded to Aulas’ latest jibes and said that Aulas was always ready to manipulate people and that the president was the reason why there was such a lack of serenity at the club.
“I serve as a lightning rod all season thanks to this gentleman who keeps me in the news,” said Puel quite coolly.
The war of words between the two men is raging and it seems that things might never settle down between the two soon. The word ‘treachery’ used by Aulas has forced Puel to respond harshly.
“It is a violent word that does not make in sense. Despite what I had endured in my last season, threats to my family, no one has said these things to me. I wanted the team to qualify for the Champions League. People say I lack dignity, some should look
in the mirror.”
Puel then went on to say that he was always committed to Lyon and said that he even took the club to the semifinals of the Champions League in 2010, something not many French clubs can boast about.
Puel also spoke about his last season at Lyon and said that he was given the task of turning things around at a club whose players had recently returned from a World Cup tired and confidence-drained.
Puel then said that he tried his best to unite the team but it was already too late as Aulas was never really behind him.
