Nice boss, Claude Puel feels that his side deserved to win in the midweek after playing so well against Rennes, and has heaped praise on his players for playing with such confidence and a positive attitude.
Les Aiglons registered their sixth win of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign at the expense of Rennes on Tuesday. The victory has pushed Le Gym to 7th in the league with 26 points on the table at the end of Week 17.
And the boss is pleased with the result and has urged Nice to continue playing like they did on Tuesday to achieve club’s objectives this season.
While talking to reporters, the 51-year-old tactician stated that it was a really tough game in many aspects and Nice did well to claim maximum points out of it. Rennes played very direct game and the boss feels that his side did well to cope with the threat
posed by the visitors.
Praising their Tuesday’s opponents, Puel said that Rennes looked dangerous on the counter but Les Aiglons were at their best to deal with that. The boss added that Nice lacked the intensity in the first half but they came back well after the interval for
which they were rewarded in the end.
"It was a very difficult match against a team that played directly and contested the second balls. Rennes pressed and played on the counter. We needed to be patient and we improved in the second half and then circumstances helped us in our task.”
The Frenchman said that he wanted Le Gym to score more goals but Nice won three points nonetheless, which is the most important thing, and has urged his players to continue playing like that in the upcoming matches.
“It's good to have taken the three points even if we would have liked to have won by more. We're in the midst of a run of tough games and we have to stay strong and vigilant."
