Claudio Pizarro committed to Werder Bremen until next summer
Having scored his 12th goal of the season on Saturday, Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro has assured of his stay at the club until the next summer. However, the player could go on parting ways with the River Islanders once the 2011/12 campaign
expires.
Bremen played hosts to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, December 10, at Weserstadion with Bremen winning comfortably by a 4-1 margin. Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Claudio Pizarro, Markus Rosenberg and Marko Arnautovic registered their names on the score sheet.
Marcel Schafer scored a lone goal for the struggling visitors.
Bremen dominated the game throughout the 90 minutes and were 4-0 up with more than quarter of a game remaining. Schafer grabbed a consolation for Die Wolfe in the 85th minute to deprive Tim Wiese of a clean sheet.
Pizarro started the game amidst reports linking him with a move away from Weserstadion at the end of current season. It is believed that Felix Magath’s Wolfsburg are interested in the attacker, as they manager has praised the Peruvian on his consistent displays
this season.
The striker, though, assured of his stay at the club until summers but is yet to sign a new deal with the River Islanders. He confirmed to his transfer talks at the season's end but wanted to limit his focus at Weserstadion for the time being.
He wished to lead his club into the top three, as Bremen find themselves occupying the fifth spot, two points adrift of the second placed Borussia Dortmund.
While talking to Sky television regarding transfer speculations, the 33-year-old further enthused:
"You never know what might happen. But I have a contract until the end of the season and we will then see where things go. Everything is possible. I could even stay, but I could also leave. Until then, I will do everything I can to make this a successful
season."
The former Chelsea player landed at Weserstadion on loan from Stamford Bridge in 2008 and signed permanently for the River Islanders in 2009. Pizarro has managed 62 league appearances ever since, bagging 37 strikes during the process.
If Bremen agree upon a deal with Wolfsburg, then the Peru international is highly likely to leave the club even during the upcoming January transfer window.
