The AS Monaco coach has expressed his disappointment at his team’s early exit from the Coupe de la Ligue at the hands of Troyes
Ligue 2 side, AS Monaco lost their Coupe de la Ligue encounter with Ligue 1 side Troyes 2-1 and were thus dumped out of a competition in which they aspired to go as far as possible. Despite fielding a pretty strong starting XI against the Champagne club,
Monaco were unable to prevent their one-goal advantage in the final moments of the game.
The 2004 finalists of the Champions League were heavily tipped to beat Troyes at Stade Louis II and took lead via a penalty in the first half.
However, a second-half onslaught from the visiting side saw the Monegasque club conceded goals in the 65th and 81st minute as Ranieri and the home team’s fans could only look helplessly at the end of the 90 minutes which should have
ended differently.
Former Lyon academy product, Mohamed Yattara received his marching orders with six minutes left but there was hardly any time for Monaco to exploit their one-man advantage over a resolute Trojan defence.
In the aftermath of a morale sickening defeat, coach Claudio Ranieri admitted that it was very disappointing to see his team being knocked out of the competition so early. The Italian wanted to see his team go further in the cup.
“It is disappointing. It’s not good to go out of the cup. We would have liked to have gone much further.”
The former Juventus manager says that his side gave a good performance in the first half but the second half changed things drastically as his players made a lot of mistakes.
“We started well and had a good first half. With their first chance after the break, they scored and then we made mistakes, but that’s football. We’ve given it a good go, but we did not have much success.”
Injury to in-form Tristan Dingome was the turning point of the game according to Ranieri because he feels that the young Frenchman was the heart and soul of the side before getting injured.

“The turning point of the game was when Tristan Dingome had to come off with an injury. He had been very good.”
