Claudio Ranieri set to be the first Serie A managerial causality of the season
Speculations is rife in the Peninsula that AS Roma manager Claudio Ranieri is set to be fired following Roma’s disastrous start to the season. Roma’s failings have been well documented as the club currently languishes at the 19th spot in the rankings
after six rounds of football. In the matches that Roma has played so far, the team has lost on three occasions, drawn twice while the only victory for the Gilarossi surprisingly came against Inter Milan – the toughest of the six fixtures so far.
Many expected the capital club to pose as a challenge for the silverware as recently as the start of the season. The club had reinforced the squad considerably and the Gilarossi were confident in improving on their 2nd placed finish from last
season.
Things went astray with the start of the new season as the club was thrashed by the likes of Cagliari and Napoli. Roma had a somewhat similar start to their campaign last year and it was the man Ranieri back then that had brought the squad together to pull
off a string of fantastic performances. Roma eventually lost out on Scudetto glory on the last match day.
Roma director Daniele Conte had publicly backed the under fire coach following Roma’s defeat to Brescia and the Gilarossi faithful thought the club was back on track following victories against Inter Milan and CFR Cluj. The most recent defeat to Napoli however,
brought the club back to the ground.
Ranieri will now have a chance of redeeming himself against a dangerous CFC Genoa outfit at Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The club will be backed by a vocal home support and anything other than the three points is likely to get Claudio Ranieri his packing orders.
Ranieri is a self proclaimed Roma fan and the veteran tactician has always voiced his love for the club. In his own words, the appointment as the AS Roma manager was a ‘dream come true’. However, the fairytale is set to have a heartbreaking ending for the
tinker man.
