Clay Buchholz helps Boston Red Sox beat Miami Marlins 2-1 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox snapped their losing streak in an emphatic fashion as they defeated Miami Marlins 2-1 at Marlins Park in Miami, FL on Tuesday, June 12 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The win will be of great importance for the Red Sox, who have struggled to achieve their desired results over the last few days. Beating their opponents in finer details of the game on Tuesday, Bobby Valentine and company will be feeling very confident about
themselves.
It will be interesting to see if they produce similar performances throughout this series to hit the .500 win percentage mark.
"If it wasn't for Shoppy doing what he did and was able to get into scoring position," Aviles said. "I was just trying to battle and not hit the ball in the infield. I was fortunate enough that the ball blooped in there."
Kelly Shoppach had a great time on the plate as he hit an RBI double to deep centre in the seventh inning to break the deadlock, giving Boston Red Sox a crucial 1-0 lead.
Mike Aviles, once again, made his presence felt as he singled to right centre in the seventh to double his side’s advantage to 2-0. Logan Morrison scored the only run for the Marlins, adding a solo home run to right in the seventh.
"Every time I watch (Buehrle) pitch, that's how the games are -- really quick tempo, not a whole lot of runs," Buchholz said. "He's just the type of guy that he has grown to be. It was fun and glad we came out on top."
"Clay was absolutely fantastic," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.
Credit should be given to Boston’s starting pitcher Clay Buchholz who pitched with great control and accuracy, playing a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
He allowed just five hits and struck out a season high nine batters in just over seven innings for his seventh win of the year. Relief pitchers Vicente Padilla and Alfredo Aceves held their nerves under pressure to help the Red Sox prevail.
