Clay Buchholz shines as Boston Red Sox defeat New York Yankees 5-3 – MLB Update
Clay Buchholz put in a tremendous pitching performance with three scoreless innings as the Boston Red Sox beat New York Yankees 5-3 at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Florida on March 4.
Buchholz permitted just one strike to Alex Rodriguez while walking two and hitting out two batters.
Clay stated during the press conference, "My first two outings have been that way. There were a lot of people [there for the game against] Minnesota the other night. But regardless, this is a time for working on pitches and working on your delivery and you
go from there."
Yankees’ pitcher Bartolo Colon was persistent to make a sturdy case for the Yankees' starting alternation, as he fired up three leading innings during the beginning of second Grapefruit League match.
Colon has not thrown in the Major Leagues since 2009 and having an interest for the Yankees, but the strong right-hander seems to be on his game after filing his pitching abilities in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Bartolo hit out five and walked none in his second start of the spring during non-roster invitee to the Yankees’ squad. He continued his pace with his fellow rotation contestants as the Yankees start their second roll through the Grapefruit League alternation.
The Yankees’ starters have now permitted just one run yielded by Colon on the February 26 game against the Philadelphia Phillies in 15 Grapefruit League innings. Colon pitched 43 and hits were 35 out of them. The Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi called him a
‘strike-throwing machine.’
Manny Banuelos, the Yankees' left-handed pitcher, gave two scoreless innings of relief, counting a hit out of Jason Varitek, who has been a catcher for the Red Sox.
The Red Sox might have been more competitive with the presence of right-hand reliever Alfredo Aceves, if he stays fit. The Yankees read the back troubles that restricted Aceves to only 12 innings of past season performance After marking a Minor League contract,
he has an ability to show that he can stay vigorous and Boston is satisfied with how he was appeared early on in the team’s camp.
