Clay Buchholz stars as Boston Red Sox overcome Cleveland Indians 3-2 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox showed great composure and mental toughness as they edged the Cleveland Indians 3-2 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday, August 10 in second game of their four match series.
Bobby Valentine will be extremely pleased to see his team back on the winning track. After losing series opener 3-5 in an unforgettable fashion, the Red Sox needed to regroup and fight back in Game 2 and that is exactly what they did on Friday afternoon
to level the series 1-1.
"Just what the doctor ordered," manager Bobby Valentine said of Buchholz, who pitched his first complete game of the season. "He was terrific. He was excellent. He was in control the whole way."
With a much needed win against Cleveland, Valentine and company improved to 56-58 and it will be great to see if they can start to win games on regular basis to have any chance of reaching the playoffs.
Asdrubal Cabrera provided Cleveland with a superb start as he homered to right-centre in the first inning to score the opening run. Dustin Pedroia helped the Red Sox counter-attack as he singled to left in the fourth inning to level the score.
Right fielder Cody Ross played a key role in deciding the outcome of the contest as he belted a home-run to centre in the sixth to give the Red Sox a crucial 3-1 lead.
Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz pitched his first complete game of the season to lift Boston to a much needed win. He struck-out six batters to improve to 10-3.
"Everybody wants to win every night," Buchholz said of being a skid stopper. "When you do it, sure it feels good."
"That's the best I've seen a guy against us, and we've seen some pretty good pitching this year," Indians' manager Manny Acta said in a post game interview. "We couldn't do anything. He was way too good mixing his pitches."
Indians’ starter Chris Seddon, on the other hand, had a rough time on the mound as he gave up five hits and three runs in six innings in a low scoring game.
